Transfer

The Urban Studies Program has Articulation Agreements with the following institutions:

.
An Articulation Agreement is a written contract or partnership between Guttman Community College and a senior college/university that outlines agreed upon coursework that will transfer over to that particular institution. Students who complete their coursework and meet the requirements specified by the receiving institution(s) upon applying will be admitted and those completed courses will be applied towards the baccalaureate degree.

The Urban Academy

Students enrolled in the Guttman Urban Studies program are a part of the Urban Academy. The Urban Academy is a partnership between the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies and partnering community colleges including Guttman. Urban academy students receive dual acceptance to their community college associate’s degree program and the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies bachelor’s degree programs. Students completing their degree in Urban Studies, can seamlessly transfer to our neighbor, CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, without the loss of any credits.

Urban Academy students are connected to the limitless learning and professional opportunities available in one of the most dynamic urban centers in the world. The Urban Academy exposes students to experiential learning through unique union partnerships, community organizations, and government agencies while providing a unique college experience focused on academic excellence, social justice and career success.

Meet Urban Studies Graduates

Currently enrolled at Queens College, CUNY, with a double-major in History and Education, Emily Michalak ’19 plans to become a secondary school social studies teacher and to work at a Polish school. As an Urban Studies major at Guttman, she found that the Urban Studies Research Seminar prepared her thoroughly for senior college and would like to give a big shout-out to Drs. Makris and Allen for teaching her so much she can pass on to her future students. The highlight of her Urban Studies journey was working with a non-profit organization known as New York City Alliance for School Integration and Desegregation (nycASID) in the Introduction to Urban Studies course.

Raliek Gholson

Upon graduating from Guttman, Raliek Gholson ‘17 attended Hunter College, CUNY, where he completed his B.A. in 2019. He was the first person in Hunter’s 150-year history to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies, with a minor in Community Organizing. Raliek had the honor of sitting behind Hilary Clinton on the stage at Hunter’s Commencement and presenting a gift from the College to Senator Chuck Schumer. At Guttman, Raliek particularly enjoyed making new connections with the history of urban public policy through exploring New York City and fieldwork. He learned not only to navigate the complex systems of the city, but also gained crucial interpersonal and professional skills that prepared him for the next steps at Hunter, securing an internship in his first semester after transfer, and later gaining employment from his host site, Pratt Area Community Council (IMPACCT Brooklyn).
