Meet the Faculty
Dr. Dalvin Hill is Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator of Information Technology (IT). He holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Tulsa, an M.S. in Internet Business Systems from Mercy College, and a B.B.A in Computer Information Systems from Monroe College. Dr. Hill’s current research areas include health information exchanges, electronic health records, and mobile payment systems. At Guttman, he will manage work-based experiential learning across the Programs of Study, as well as integrating industry certification into the curriculum of the IT Program.

Dr. Dara Pir, Assistant Professor of Information Technology, holds a Ph.D. and an M.Phil. in Computer Science from the CUNY Graduate Center. Dr. Pir’s professional background includes software design and development in the private sector and his research interests focus on signal processing applications. In 2018, Dr. Pir was awarded the Food Type Sub-Challenge Prize for Top Performance in the Eating Analysis and Tracking (EAT) Grand Challenge at the 20th ACM International Conference on Multimodal Interaction (ICMI). His work is described in the ICMI 2018 Proceedings paper.
Dr. Jinzhong Niu

Assistant Professor of Information Technology Dr. Jinzhong Niu received a B.S. from Shandong University, China, an M.E. from Beihang University, China, and a Ph.D. from the CUNY Graduate Center, all in Computer Science. His research interests lie between Computer Science and Economics, focusing on agent-based computational economics and market-based control. Before joining Guttman, Dr. Niu held research positions at Lenovo Research, Yahoo! Labs, University of Birmingham, UK, University of Essex, UK, and the City College of New York, CUNY. He has also served on committees for top conferences and workshops on Artificial Intelligence, including AAAI and AAMAS. Dr. Niu’s publications include: one book, eight book chapters, eight journal articles, and approximately 20 conference papers. He is the architect of JCAT, an open-source software package for simulating double-sided auctions, and of OOPN-IDE, an object-oriented Petri net-based integrated development environment for concurrent software. At Guttman, Dr. Niu teaches in the Information Technology Program, as well as Quantitative Reasoning in the First Year Experience. As a long-time CUNY Undergraduate Research Scholars Program faculty advisor, he has guided student research on topics ranging from robotics and 3-D imaging to data mining in social media and voice-based control using Amazon’s Alexa.
