Guttman’s Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure (RPT) Guidelines specify that faculty must demonstrate sustained records of teaching excellence, service to the institution, and scholarly growth in order to be awarded tenure. The tenure portfolio should provide clear evidence of the faculty member’s record in these areas. To support faculty in preparing their tenure portfolios, the college offers direct, one-on-one mentoring support through the Faculty Personnel Committees (FPCs). Mentors are assigned by the FPC chair in collaboration with the Dean of Faculty from among tenured and promoted members of the candidate’s FPC at the of their fifth year. Mentors and mentees meet regularly to discuss preparation of the tenure portfolio, including how to provide clear documentation of sustained achievement in the three RPT areas and develop a narrative reflection that conveys the value and impact of the candidate’s work.
