Guttman Community College is committed to creating safe and affirming environments for all LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) students and providing the necessary information and skills for our community members to do so. Safe Zone is a campus-wide program designed to provide foundational knowledge needed to support and act in solidarity with LGBTQ+ populations. Safe Zone is designed to visibly identify a network of students, staff, and faculty who support the LGBTQ+ population, better understand LGBTQ+ communities and some of the issues the community faces, and are aware of various LGBTQ+ resources available.

The Guttman Safe Zone Program
Safe Zone Certification Program
At Guttman, the Safe Zone Certification program is comprised of a voluntary network of faculty, staff, and student advocates committed to creating a campus climate where all LGBTQ+, and other genders, are able to thrive academically, professionally, and personally on campus. After completing the Safe Zone workshop, participants receive a Safe Zone placard that they can display in their workspace. This signifies that they are positive, supportive, and affirming to members of the LGBTQ+ community and can safely and comfortably be approached for support or guidance. The Safe Zone Certification also means that the individual will use inclusive language, avoid stereotyping, and will not assume gender binaries or heterosexuality.
Who Should Participate?
All administrators, faculty, staff, and students at Guttman are encouraged to participate in the Safe Zone Certification program.
