What is Phi Theta Kappa?

Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society (or PTK for short), is an honor society that recognizes academic excellence at the Community College level. According to the Phi Theta Kappa website, the organization, founded in 1918 seeks to achieve the following mission: to recognize academic achievement of college students and to provide opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders.

What are the benefits of joining Phi Theta Kappa?

Joining Phi Theta Kappa is a great way to be recognized for your contributions to the Guttman academic community, and opens the door to opportunities for scholarship, leadership, and professional development. Members can apply for more than $37 million in transfer scholarships, take part in volunteer events, become certified in leadership skills through Five Star Competitive Edge, or take part in one of PTK’s many national programs. How do you join Phi Theta Kappa?

To be eligible to join Phi Theta Kappa at Guttman, you must have completed at least 12 credits and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5. There is a one-time $70 membership fee to join, and a limited number of scholarships are available for students. Please email PTK@guttman.cuny.edu for more information!
