Dear Colleagues,
New York is the 2nd home for many persons from the islands devastated by the recent hurricanes. Many in our community have family and close friends in Puerto Rico, and we celebrate the heritage of Puerto Rico that is inextricably integral to the history of New York City.
Guttman Community College has identified places where members of our community and others can respond to this humanitarian crisis, in Puerto Rico and the other islands where our students, faculty, and staff have such deep connections.
New Yorkers know what it is to face disaster. September 11 is a day we all remember. Superstorm Sandy devastated our city only weeks after the College opened five years ago. After being closed a week, students arrived at the building at 7 am, well before the start of classes, reporting that they were glad to be back in a safe place.
Guttman is indeed a safe, supportive place. Let’s all listen to one another, remember our common bonds, and find ways to support others in these difficult days. As we do that, please visit the Guttman Community College Disaster Relief page, which has a compilation of the various service agencies offered across the CUNY System and the City of New York.
Thank you for your support of all in our community.
Scott
