As the College Celebrates its 10-year Anniversary, it Opens its Doors to Students with Prior College Credits
NEW YORK, N.Y. (February 9, 2023) – Students who have previously earned college credits can now complete their associate degrees at Stella and Charles Guttman Community College. As of Thursday, February 9, students interested in transferring credits to Guttman may apply for the Fall 2023 semester through the City University of New York’s online application.
“I’m thrilled to welcome a new student demographic to Guttman Community College,” said Guttman President Larry Johnson. “We are making history in our College’s 10th year, and transfer students are just the beginning. As the College continues its growth, we look forward to providing educational opportunities for more potential students throughout New York City who are interested in furthering their education.”
Students can transfer into any of Guttman’s six programs of study: Business Administration, Human Services, Information Technology, Liberal Arts & Sciences, Science, and Urban Studies. Each program provides well-defined pathways to an associate degree and ensures an appropriate balance of academic and professional preparation. Within each program, students will take part in applied experiences or internships and connect with experts and professional institutions in relevant fields, providing real, hands-on learning to help students gain the experience today’s careers demand.
Students who transfer to Guttman will benefit from the College’s small campus and personalized services that increase academic success and provide guidance and support toward completing an associate degree. To prepare for the next step after graduation, students can also take advantage of services offered to assist with transferring to a four-year college or entering the workforce.
“Guttman Community College faculty are committed to fostering an engaged curricular experience. Transfer students will benefit from the College’s strong pedagogical approaches and our embedded student support services,” said Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Nicola Blake.
Upon applying to Guttman, all students will be invited to attend an information session that will introduce students to the College and allow them to meet faculty, staff, advisors and peers. Those interested in applying as a transfer student can find more information at guttman.cuny.edu/admissions/how-to-apply.
Stella and Charles Guttman Community College was CUNY’s first new community college in more than forty years. Reimagining what community college could be, Guttman opened its doors in Manhattan in August 2012 to create a research-based, innovative model focused on moving students efficiently toward graduation. Offering associate degree programs in a nurturing environment, the College’s three-year graduation rate consistently surpasses the national average, and most graduates transfer to senior colleges. Guttman is federally designated as a Hispanic-serving institution and minority-serving institution with more than 85% of the student population identifying as Latine or Black/African American. The College was named the best community college in America in 2020 and the top community college in New York State for 2020, 2021 and 2022 by Niche.com and other ranking agencies.
