Students with a laptopNew York, N.Y. (February 15, 2023) – Guttman Community College is delighted to announce that it will be developing a Cybersecurity Certificate Program in partnership with Henry Street Settlement. This collaboration, aimed to begin in fall 2023, will give program participants a deeper insight into the field of information security as students gain the necessary knowledge and skills to prevent, mitigate and recover from cybersecurity attacks. Upon program completion, students will be competitive applicants for entry-level positions within information security, expanding their options on the job market.

The Cybersecurity Certificate Program will be the inaugural offering from the newly created Career Innovation Hub (CIH) at Guttman. The CIH will create and implement tightly coordinated educational pathways that lead to satisfying and financially secure careers. Through credit and non-credit bearing programs, the CIH will support students as they navigate the complex intersection between their interests and aspirations, the labor market, and industry needs.

“The CIH will respond to student interests and industry needs and provide educational pathways to enhanced job opportunities, higher earnings, degree completion, and promising career trajectories and this is critical to combatting systemic inequalities” said President Larry Johnson.

“We are especially excited to work with the Henry Street team to create additional pipelines to economic security. The pedagogical approach at Guttman is grounded in a deep commitment to creating an engaged classroom environment,” said Provost Blake.

The Henry Street Settlement is a not-for-profit social service agency in the Lower East Side neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, that provides social services, arts programs, and health care services to over 50,000 New Yorkers of all ages.

Stella and Charles Guttman Community College is CUNY’s first new community college in more than forty years. Reimagining what community college can be, Guttman opened its doors in Manhattan in August 2012 to create a research-based, innovative model focused on moving students efficiently toward graduation. Offering associate degree programs in a nurturing environment, the College’s three-year graduation rate consistently surpasses the national average, and most graduates transfer to senior colleges. Guttman is federally designated as a Hispanic-serving institution and minority-serving institution with more than 85% of the student population identifying as Latine or Black/African American. The College was named the best community college in America in 2020 and the top community college in New York State for 2020, 2021 and 2022 by Niche.com and other ranking agencies.
