Guttman Community College Appoints Dr. Daniel Ambrose as Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs

NEW YORK, N.Y. (June 28, 2023) – With approval from the City University of New York Board of Trustees, Stella and Charles Guttman Community College appoints Dr. Daniel Ambrose as Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. A long-time staff member at the College, Dr. Ambrose is well poised to provide executive oversight and leadership for the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs“I am thrilled the search committee has chosen Dr. Ambrose to lead this important division,” said President Dr. Larry Johnson. “With more than 10 years of service at Guttman, Dr. Ambrose has demonstrated his commitment to our students and his ability to provide visionary leadership for our growing College. I look forward to our continued growth as a College with Dr. Ambrose at the helm of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.”

Dr. Ambrose served in the role on an interim basis since December 2022 while an official search was conducted. During that time, the College relied on Dr. Ambrose’s expertise to leverage institutional data in the development and implementation of programs to increase student retention, persistence, success, and graduation. An integral member of the College, Dr. Ambrose joined in August 2012 as the associate director of mentoring before becoming interim dean of enrollment management.

In addition to his tenure with the College, Dr. Ambrose has over fifteen years of ascending professional experience in academic advisement, enrollment management, crisis management, culturally responsive leadership curriculum design, and program development. Dr. Ambrose holds a Doctorate in Education, Educational Leadership, Administration, and Policy from Fordham University and a Master of Science in Higher Education Student Affairs from Indiana University. Dr. Ambrose’s appointment is effective June 27.

Stella and Charles Guttman Community College was CUNY’s first new community college in more than forty years. Reimagining what community college could be, Guttman opened its doors in Manhattan in August 2012 to create a research-based, innovative model focused on moving students efficiently toward graduation. Offering associate degree programs in a nurturing environment, the College’s three-year graduation rate consistently surpasses the national average, and most graduates transfer to senior colleges. Guttman is federally designated as a Hispanic-serving institution and minority-serving institution with more than 85% of the student population identifying as Latine or Black/African American. The College was named the best community college in America in 2020 and the top community college in New York State for 2020, 2021, and 2022 by Niche.com and other ranking agencies.
