On behalf of Guttman Community College, I am deeply saddened by the death of Tyre Nichols. Once again, we find ourselves grappling with a needless loss of life as well as the traumatic imagery that has followed. We are aware of the impact this tragic event has on our college community, particularly our BIPOC students, faculty and staff, and we are dedicated to providing spaces for conversation and support.
I encourage students to make an appointment at the Counseling and Wellness Center – email counseling.wellness@guttman.cuny.edu or visit Room 509A for free, confidential counseling. For immediate help, text “CUNY” to 741741 for free, 24/7 crisis counseling or call/text 988 for mental health crisis support. Faculty and staff may reach out to a counselor through the CCA@YourService Employee Assistance Program (EAP) at 800-833-8707.
As part of the College’s mission, we seek to enact inclusive and equitable practices to advance social and racial justice inside and outside our classrooms.
