Guttman’s Center for Career Preparation and Partnerships (CCPP) along with Student Life are co-sponsoring Conexiones: a Latinx Heritage Month Career Panel and Networking event. The event will take place from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 20th, in Room 410 at Guttman Community College.
LatinX professionals who will be speaking at Conexiones include Daniel Agosto, Adrienne Boykin, Scarlet Dominguez, and Jennifer Vera.
Daniel Agosto, Managing Director of Workforce, Phipps Neighborhoods
Daniel Agosto joined Phipps Neighborhoods in July 2019 as the Director of Career Network: Healthcare (CNH), a career development program in partnership with Montefiore Medical Center and Hostos Community College, geared towards helping young adults secure healthcare-related employment and/or education. As of September 2022, he now serves as the Managing Director of Workforce with a staff of twelve, overseeing all Phipps workforce programs, including the CNH program now in its 28th cohort; Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP); Work, Learn, Grow serving youth in CareerReady High Schools in the Bronx; Jobs to Build On providing job readiness and employment; and Career Network: Building Services offering building services and construction training, certification, internship, and employment. Prior to joining Phipps Neighborhoods, Daniel, a native Bronxite, had a successful 15-year career in workforce development. Daniel’s leadership style, outgoing personality and desire for success are instrumental in helping provide low-income New Yorkers with a path toward self-sufficiency.
Adrienne Boykin, Chief Financial Officer, America Needs You
Adrienne Boykin currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer at America Needs You (ANY), a not-for-profit organization with a mission to fight for economic mobility for ambitious, first-generation college students by providing transformative mentorship and intensive career development. Before joining the ANY Program team in 2014, Adrienne worked in the accounting profession as a Senior Accountant at Balchem Corporation, where she was responsible for all accounting and financial reporting needs of a $50-million segment. Prior to that, she was a Transaction Services Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she conducted financial and business valuation reviews for clients engaged in complex accounting transactions. Adrienne, a first-generation college graduate, received her B.S. in Accounting from Fordham University, located in Bronx, NY and her Master of Business Administration from Mount Saint Mary College, located in the Hudson Valley, NY—Adrienne’s hometown area.
Scarlet Dominguez, Education Program Manager, New York Urban League
Scarlet Dominguez graduated from Guttman Community College in 2017 with an Associate’s in Human Services. She then transferred to John Jay College of Criminal Justice and received her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and minor in Law in 2019. Scarlet is committed to serving children, youth, and young adults and has experience in a variety of educational settings. Currently she works for the New York Urban League as an Education Program Manager at Bronx Legacy High School. Previously she was an Assistant Teacher at the Chinese American Planning Council’s Jacob Riis Early Childhood Center, and as a Case Manager at the Jill Chafietz Transfer High School. Scarlet also worked at Guttman as a Peer Leader in the Center for Career Preparation and Partnerships and in the Office of Student Leadership and Campus Life.
Jennifer Vera, Forensic Psychology and Anthropology Student, John Jay College
Jennifer Vera is currently a senior at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, double majoring in Forensic Psychology and Anthropology. During her time at John Jay, Jennifer has gained valuable internship and work experience in the private sector as well as in local and federal government agencies. She is currently an intern at both the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the New York City Department of Investigation, and was selected to be a Fellow at Project Basta, which supports first-generation college students to launch great careers. Previously she served as an intern at the United States Marshals Service and Nardello & Co. Jennifer was recently profiled in an article on John Jay’s website highlighting the power of her internship experiences and her goal to “demonstrate to Latina women that we can work in these traditionally male-dominated fields, and excel in them.”
