Guttman Community College President Dr. Larry Johnson, Jr. has been appointed as a representative for the Northern Region to the Presidents Academy Executive Committee (PAEC) of the American Association of Community Colleges. His term began on July 1, 2021, and will end on June 30, 2024.

Of his appointed, Dr. Johnson said, “I am elated to be part of PAEC. The American Association of Community Colleges is one of the preeminent organizations that advocates for student access and success and supports the development of future leaders and community college CEOs. Serving in this capacity will afford me the opportunity to partner with CEOs from across the United States to further advance the mission of community colleges.”

The AACC is the primary advocacy organization for the nation’s community colleges. The association represents more than 1,000 2-year, associate degree-granting institutions and nearly 12 million students.

Dr. Larry Johnson, Jr. is Guttman’s second president. He joined the College in July 2021. Guttman has won national notice for its high graduation rates and innovative first-year experience academic model.  Designated as both a minority (MSI) and Hispanic (HSI) serving institution, over ninety percent of Guttman students are Students of Color. Guttman’s graduation rates are the highest in CUNY’s community college sector. More than eighty percent of Guttman graduates go on to senior colleges, with the far majority of them continuing at CUNY schools. Guttman’s high graduation rates contribute greatly to the College being ranked as the best community college in America in 2020, and the top community college in New York State for 2020 and 2021 by Niche.com and other ranking agencies.
