Guttman students, faculty, and staff may check out library materials using their valid Guttman ID card, which has a Library barcode printed on the back. The ID card must be activated before being used in the Library. Patrons are responsible for all usage on their accounts and are warned against lending their ID cards to others.
Circulation
Identification
Instructors may place course materials on reserve, for students to use in the Library only. These materials can include books, audiobooks, journals, magazines, newspapers, and DVDs.
Reserves may be checked out for up to 3 hours. To check out a course reserve, students should request the book or course material they need at the Circulation Desk. Click here for more information on how Find the Book You Need.
Check-Out
Students may check out books for four weeks at a time. Faculty and staff have longer loan periods. Reserve and Reference materials cannot be checked out and must be used in the Library.
Renewals
Books can be renewed in person or online continuously until requested by another patron. Click here for instructions on how to renew a book.
A book cannot be renewed
- if the book has been placed on hold or recalled by another library customer
- if there is a block on the user’s Library account
Non-Circulating Materials
Journals, magazines, newspapers, and DVDs do not circulate. Students may check out these materials and use in the Library for up to 3 hours.
Faculty and staff may check out DVDs for use in the classroom.
Holds and Recalls
Items that are checked out of the Library can be placed on “hold”. You may do so either in person at the Circulation Desk or online. Click here for instructions on how to place an item on hold.
Lost or Damaged Materials
Patrons are responsible for returning all items checked out from the Library in the condition they were borrowed. If an item is reported lost by the Library but the patron claims that it has been returned, a reasonable time is allowed for Library staff to search for the item. If it is not found, the account may be charged for the cost of the item. Material that is returned damaged may be subject to a fine or replacement charge.
Late Fines
Items returned late will incur late fines.
