      Catastrophic Sick Leave Bank Program

      The Catastrophic Sick Leave Bank (CSLB) is a pool of sick leave and annual leave voluntarily donated by individuals who are employed full-time on an annual salary basis for potential use as sick leave by eligible full-time employees who are also donors to the bank. Eligible recipients may receive up to 90 days of paid CSLB leave in any one program year (September 1–August 31).

      Dedicated Sick Leave Program

      The Dedicated Sick Leave (DSL) Program enables individuals who are employed full-time on an annual salary basis to donate sick leave and/or annual leave for use as sick leave by a seriously ill or injured eligible employee who has been designated by the donor. Eligible recipients may receive up to 120 days or six months of paid sick leave, whichever is greater, in any one program year (September 1–August 31). Donated leave may be approved in increments not exceeding two months. The Dedicated Sick Leave Program permits donations of annual leave and/or sick leave across CUNY campuses and across titles.

      Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

      The CUNY FMLA policy provides eligible employees with up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave for qualifying reasons during the designated leave year (September 1– August 31). To be eligible, an employee must have been employed by the University for at least 12 months cumulatively and must have worked at least 1,250 hours during the 12-month period preceding the requested commencement of the leave.

      Non-FMLA Leave Forms

      An employee who may not be eligible for FMLA may apply for Non-FMLA.

      Paid Family Leave

      New York State Paid Family Leave Benefits is an insurance benefit that provides eligible employees with 12 weeks of job-protected, paid time off to bond with a newly born, adopted or fostered child, to care for a family member with a serious health condition, or to assist loved ones when a spouse, domestic partner, child, or parent is deployed on active military service. CUNY Community College employees in titles represented by the PSC-CUNY, DC 37 and Teamsters, Local 237 are eligible to use the Paid Family Leave.

      Paid Parental Leave (Full-time Faculty & HEO Series Employees Only)

      Full-time Faculty and HEO Series employees who have a minimum of one year of service with CUNY are eligible for a continuous leave of absence to care for a newborn child or for a newly adopted child, adopted at up to five years of age, for a period not to exceed eight weeks.

      NYS Paid Parental Leave (ECP & CSM Staff Only)

      Effective September 1, 2023, all full-time and part-time (who work at least 50%) Executive Compensation Plan (ECP) and Classified Managerial Staff (CMS) employees will be eligible for New York State Paid Parental Leave (NYS PPL). Eligibility begins on the first day of employment in an ECP or CMS title.

      Eligible employees may take leave with full pay for up to 12 weeks for each qualifying event, defined as the birth of a child or placement of a child for adoption or foster care. NYS PPL is available for use once every 12-month period.  A qualifying event begins the 12-month period.

      Time on NYS PPL must be completed within 7 months from the qualifying event. NYS PPL may not be used intermittently and must be taken in a single block of time.
